Involved developmental care

How do you involve parents in care?

Involve parents in developmental care with their own baby items. This provides peace of mind and strengthens the bond for both parents and child.

Parents often have their hospital bag packed even before the delivery. Filled with clothes and other items for their baby. When it turns out that their newborn needs extra care, they are suddenly faced with a lot. The warm, homely feeling often gives way to a clinical environment full of medical equipment.

How nice is it if parents can still remain involved in the care? If they can really make a difference in their child’s developmental care? This strengthens their sense of involvement and has a positive effect on the baby. Consider using items that smell like home, such as a cuddly cloth, hydrophilic diaper, or burp cloth.

In a previous blog, we mentioned some basic means for stress reduction, such as the Cozy Cub and the Dandle PAL. These offer direct support and positioning. You can easily combine these with personal baby items. And depending on the situation, you can use additional resources, such as the Dandle WRAP, Snuggly ROO, or Dandle ROO2.

Combine with your own baby products

There are many possibilities to combine your own baby products with the resources for developmental care in the department. For example, use a hydrophilic diaper as a blanket in combination with the Cozy Cub for optimal positioning.

Do you need a ‘hand’ to comfort the baby? Then use one of the ‘legs’ of the Dandle PAL. The Dandle PAL has a lot of added value for a premature or unstable child. Even then, you can combine it with a familiar cloth or stuffed animal from home.

In this way, parents feel truly involved in the care for their child. That gives peace of mind. For the parents and the child.
