Endobronchial double lumen tubes (DLTs) are used in one-lung ventilation procedures (OLV). This also includes situations where it is essential to prevent secretions and blood from one lung from contaminating the other lung.
The endobronchial cuff is blue for better visualization during fiber optic bronchoscopy. These tubes are curved to facilitate guidance to the right or left mainstem bronchus.
Based on the different anatomy of the right and left lung, both right and left DLTs are available. The length marking indicates the insertion depth of the tube and helps the anesthesiologist locate the DLT.
The cuffs, two lumens and pilot balloons are printed with “Tracheal” (transparent) or “Bronchial” (blue color) for easy identification. The balloon of the right-shaped tube has an S-shaped balloon with Murphy's Eye for better ventilation and to prevent the tube from being blocked by the wall of the trachea or by other obstructions.
