With the external Graseby respiration sensor, you can synchronize non-invasive ventilation and detect apnea with the Stephanie, Sophie, EVE, and EVA ventilators.
The respiration sensor is a small "cushion" filled with air and a small piece of foam. This "cushion" is connected to a highly sensitive pressure sensor in the ventilator. This allows breathing movements to be observed very well. The abdominal breathing movement is often greatest in newborns, which is where you place the sensor.
The respiration sensor is used for apnea detection during nasal CPAP. When no spontaneous breathing movement occurs, the ventilator switches to back-up ventilation.
During NIPPV, the respiration sensor can be used for synchronization. It synchronizes all of the child's breaths non-invasively, triggering on inspiration, but the system can also detect when the expiratory phase begins. The mechanical breath is then adjusted accordingly.
