The IDA infusion pump tester is a test instrument that is used frequently and for extended periods. In many hospitals, volumetric and syringe infusion pumps are continuously maintained and tested with the IDA. Based on usage and maintenance experiences, we are happy to share a number of insights. These ensure that the device continues to function properly and reduce the chance of malfunctions.
1. Fill measuring channel with test fluid every quarter
Fill the measuring channels of your IDA infusion pump tester with test fluid every quarter and let it stand overnight. The membrane of the internal three-way valve can dry out. This can cause the measuring channels to leak, which causes deviations in the flow measurement. A small portion of the fluid is then discharged directly to the outlet via the three-way valve, and not included in the measurement. By doing this every quarter, you prevent drying and leakage.
2. Use channels alternately
Use the different measuring channels of your infusion pump tester alternately. In practice, the first (left) channel is often used the most. By also using the other channels regularly, they remain in better condition. Do you work with the IDA in combination with Ansur software? Then the software automatically selects the first open channel, which makes alternation a little less practical.
3. Dry syringes when not in temporary use
If you are not using the IDA temporarily, for example during the summer vacation? Then blow the channels dry with an empty syringe. This prevents scale, which can affect measurements.
4. Micro-90 cleaning
Add a small amount of Micro-90 to the test fluid to prevent deposits in the measuring channels. Micro-90 is included with the IDA. Please note: one drop per liter is sufficient. Combine this with the quarterly filling from tip 1 and you’re all set.
With these tips, you can keep the measuring channels of your IDA infusion pump tester in top condition.
