Silicone endobronchial double lumen tubes (DLTs) are used in surgeries where lung isolation is essential. Tappa has developed a silicone DLT. This is softer and more flexible, making insertion more patient-friendly. After the procedure, the patient experiences less sore throat, hoarseness and swallowing problems.
The end and tip of the tube are soft and reinforced with steel wire. This reduces the chance of kinking during positioning in combination with X-rays.
The endobronchial cuff is blue in color for better visualization during fiberoptic bronchoscopy. These tubes are curved to simplify guidance to the right or left main bronchus. Due to the anatomical differences between the left and right lung, a DLT is available for both sides. Of course, these different DLTs are easy to distinguish from each other.
